      DescriptionNative α-sarcin from Aspergillus giganteus. The mold Aspergillus giganteus produces a cytotoxic protein, α-sarcin, which inhibits protein synthesis by inactivating ribosomes. It selectively cleaves a single phosphodiester bond in a universally conserved sequence of the major rRNA to inactivate the ribosome and exert its cytotoxic action. While apoptosis is not a direct consequence of protein biosynthesis inhibition, it is related to the effects of the catalytic activity of the toxin on the ribosomes. Useful for Inhibition of protein synthesis and induction of apoptosis.
