2-Propanol is a widely used polar organic solvent particularly, valued for its miscibility with water and organic solvents, moderate polarity, and low UV absorbance. These properties make it highly suitable for various chromatographic techniques, including High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), and Gas Chromatography (GC).

2-Propanol is frequently used in HPLC :
  • As a solvent for sample preparation, especially for moderately polar to non-polar analytes.
  • To enhance resolution and peak shape in the analysis of lipids and hydrophobic compounds
  • as a mobile phase modifier in silver ion HPLC to enhance the solubility of acetonitrile in hexane-based systems. It significantly improves the resolution of positional isomers of triacylglycerols containing long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids
