      OverviewNutrient mixture Ham's F-10 and F-12 were optimized for the serum free growth of hamster ovary strains and the clonal growth of chick embryo cells. Ham's F-10 is well suited for a wide variety of mammalian cells when used with a serum supplement in a 5% CO2 atmosphere. Ham's F-12 has higher levels of amino acids, vitamins and trace elements vs. Ham's F-10. Putrescine and linoleic acid were added to the formulation. Ham's F-12 today is the medium of choice for clonal toxicity-assays using CHO cells (CHD-3 and CHL-1).
