Stimulates the phosphorylation of Na+,K+- ATPase, thereby inhibiting its activity. Promotes the expression of inducible NOS in cultured hepatocytes. Commonly used in binding studies or in applications requiring high concentrations of phorbol compounds.

PDBu can be diluted to 30 µM in aqueous solutions, so it is commonly used in binding studies or in applications requiring high concentrations. It is easier to remove PDBu than PMA from cells in culture.
