A cytotoxic purine nucleoside active against human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). A cell-permeable, reversible, selective, and potent protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor (IC50 = 10 µM). The inhibition is competitive with respect to ATP and non-competitive with respect to histone and lipid cofactors.
