Phenol is a predominant pollutant in the environment. Phenol is also used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry. Phenol pollutes water bodies and inhibits the γ-amino butyric acid receptor (GABAAR)-coupled chloride ATPase function in the fish brain.
