Immobilon Transfer Membranes & Kits

Immobilon® PVDF transfer membranes for Western blotting

Immobilon® PVDF transfer membranes provide high sensitivity, low background, broad solvent compatibility, and superior staining capabilities in Western blotting and other immunoblotting applications. Tailored for specific applications, detection chemistries, and blotting techniques, Immobilon® membranes are offered in a variety of options for optimal results, flexibility, and convenience.

Immobilon®-P PVDF Membranes

The original Immobilon® transfer membrane for Western blotting offers high protein adsorption and retention for greater sensitivity. To visualize the protein transfer efficiency, Immobilon®-P membrane may be stained with any reversible blot stain compatible with immunodetection (e.g., Ponceau-S,) or viewed by transillumination using a light box.

  • High protein binding for greater sensitivity
  • Durability for stripping and re-probing
  • 0.45 µm pore size ideal for most Western blotting applications
  • Compatible with absorbance (chromogenic) and chemiluminescent detection methods

Immobilon®-E PVDF Membranes

The Immobilon®-E membrane is the first PVDF membrane that wets out in aqueous buffers, eliminating the hazardous methanol pre-wet step.

  • Eliminates the hazardous methanol pre-wetting step associated with PVDF membranes
  • High protein binding capacity for better sensitivity
  • 0.45 µm pore size ideal for most Western blotting applications
  • Compatible with absorbance (colorimetric) and chemiluminescent detection methods

Immobilon®-FL PVDF Membranes

Immobilon®-FL membranes were optimized for fluorescence detection methods, featuring low background across a wide range of excitation and emission wavelengths.

  • Ideal for multiplexing, fluorescence, and chemifluorescence detection methods
  • Compatible with all commonly used fluorescent dyes
  • Also compatible with non-fluorescent detection chemistries
  • 0.45 µm pore size ideal for most Western blotting applications

Immobilon®-PSQ PVDF Membranes

Immobilon®-PSQ membranes were developed for protein sequencing and immunoblotting of low molecular weight proteins, offering highest binding capacity and retention for stronger signal. The 0.20 µm membrane pore size is ideal for retention of more proteins, reducing the risk of “blow-through” for protein targets with a molecular weight <20 kDa.

  • 0.2 µm pore size
  • Higher protein adsorption and sequencing yields compared to other membranes
  • Prevents blow-through of low molecular weight proteins
  • Recommended when blotting target proteins smaller than 20 kDa
  • Compatible with a variety of detection chemistries, including radioactive, chromogenic, and chemiluminescent techniques
