General description

Sodium formate (HCOONa) is a sodium salt of formic acid. It is a significant hydrogen source. It is used as a buffering agent to regulate the pH.

Application

Sodium formate can be used:
  • As a hydrogen source in the selective synthesis of 4,4′-diaminostilbene-2,2′-disulfonic acid (DSD) from 4,4′-dinitrostilbene-2,2′-disulfonic acid (DNS) in presence of metal oxide supported gold catalyst.
  • As a heterogeneous nucleation promoter in the synthesis of ZIF-8 (Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8) membranes on α-alumina supports.
