General description

1-Chloronaphthalene (CN) improves the power conversion efficiency of bulk heterojunction solar cells. It forms 2:2 inclusion complex with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD), which is generated by the self-association of 1:1 β-CD-1CN inclusion complexes.

Application

1-Chloronaphthalene was used as solvent additive in the fabrication of fullerene based photovoltaic devices. It was also used in preparation of PVC based membranes of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-methoxyphenyl)porphyrinatocobalt(II) for arsenite determination.

The bulk heterojunction (BHJ) material Si-PDTBT:PC(70)BM is sensitive to the use of a small amount of 1-chloronaphthalene (CN) as a processing additive; CN as a cosolvent (e.g., 4% in chlorobenzene) causes in a factor of 2 increase in the power

The optimization of solution-processed organic bulk-heterojunction solar cells with the acceptor-substituted quinquethiophene DCV5T-Bu 4 as donor in conjunction with PC61BM as acceptor is described. Power conversion efficiencies up to 3.0% and external quantum efficiencies up to 40% were obtained through
