General description

Oximes are selective reagents which react with limited number of metal ions. These form water-insoluble complexes extractable into organic solvents. Furildioxime, a gravimetric and colorimetric reagent for nickel, palladium, platinum and rhenium is prepared by the oximation of furil with hydroxyammonium chloride followed by aqueous recrystallisation using MacKair′s method.

Application

a-furildioxime [(2,2′)-Furildioxime] was used:
  • as neutral carrier in Calcium(II)-selective potentiometric sensor, selective electrode used for titration.
  • in the synthesis of ketenimines and bis(ketenimines).
  • in determination of palladium in water samples by rapid spectrophotometric analysis.
