4-ニトロベンゾイルクロリドは、トリフェニルホスホニウム塩と反応して分子内Wittig反応によりベンゾフラン（陽電子放射断層撮影（PET）トレーサー候補）を合成します。Adiol（アンドロステンジオール、前立腺癌の内因性増殖因子）の誘導体化に使用されています。
