General description

5-ヒドロキシトリプタミンとも呼ばれるセロトニンは、重要な生体モノアミン神経伝達物質および神経調節物質であり、中枢神経系に存在します。食欲、不安、睡眠、気分、血圧などのさまざまな生理的プロセスの調節に関与しています。セロトニン濃度が低下すると、肥満、統合失調症、うつ病などの疾患になることがあります。
