腎臓および膀胱に集中する抗生物質；プラチナを含む抗腫瘍薬の腎中毒症および耳毒性を減少させます。ホスホマイシンは、細菌の細胞壁生合成に関与する酵素であるUDP-GlcNAcエノールピルビルトランスフェラーゼ（MurA）を不可逆に阻害するホスホエノールピルビン酸類似化合物です。結果として、ペプチドグリカン細胞壁の必須要素であるN-アセチルムラミン酸の産生が阻害されます。
