酢酸は有機カルボン酸の1種です。刺激臭のある吸湿性の液体です。氷酢酸は無水酢酸です。溶液中およびガス状の、一般的に相と呼ばれる媒体中で水素結合により二量体を形成します。本来は弱酸です。

Application

酢酸は様々な酸化反応に溶媒として広く利用されています。電子移動解離（ETD）タンデムマススペクトロメトリー（MS/MS）による合成ペプチド分析に用いられることがあります。Perhydrol（30%過酸化水素）との反応を経てパーオキシ酢酸（殺菌剤）の調製に用いられることがあります。
