Application

デキストランは、血小板凝集剤、血漿体積増量剤、浸透圧調整剤、安定剤、器官分離媒体、マトリックス構成要素、コポリマー、マイクロキャリア、結合剤、粘度調整剤、抗血栓剤、潤滑剤および物理的構造の構成要素として多くの用途に使用されます。それらは、抱合／結合タンパク質の性能（移動の自由）を改善するための長い親水性スペーサーアームとして使用される場合があります。デキストランは、バイオセンサーシステムに使用するために誘導体化される場合があります。
60,000 Da未満のデキストランは、一般に低分子量デキストランとみなされます。低分子量デキストランは、高分子量デキストランと比べて、それらの粘度、凝集および透過特性のためにしばしば好まれます。高分子量の水溶性デキストランポリマーは、様々な生物医学的用途に使用されています。低分子量デキストランであるデキストラン（9,000～11,000）は、一過性の細胞膜および血液脳関門（BBB）の透過などのプロセスの研究に使用できます。それは、タンパク質のパッキングおよび折り畳みの研究における糖ベースのクラウディング剤として使用できます。

Preparation Note

最大分子量のデキストランD5501（分子量範囲 = 500万から4,000万）を除き、デキストランは水にきわめて溶けやすいです。シグマは、一般に水中で30 mg/mLを超える濃度でデキストランの溶解度をテストします。また、デキストランは、DMSO、ホルムアミド、エチレングリコール、およびグリセロールにも溶けやすいです。中性デキストラン水溶液は、110～115oCで30～45分間、オートクレーブ滅菌することができます。デキストランは、高温で強酸により加水分解されます。デキストランの末端還元末端基は、アルカリ溶液で酸化できます。
