スペクチノマイシンはストレプトミセス・スペクタビリス由来のアミノシクリトール抗生物質です。スペクチノマイシンには、急性淋菌性尿道炎および子宮頚炎の治療、葉の発育中の細胞運命をモニターするための細胞層のマークキング、マーカー遺伝子Spcrを含む植物細胞のための植物関連変換システムにおける選択マーカー、パスツレラ･マルトシダおよびマンヘミア・ヘモリチカによって引き起こされる畜牛の気道感染の研究、およびMS寒天培地におけるプラスチドコード化RNAポリメラーゼが不足した植物の発生を含む多種多様な用途があることが分かっています。スペクチノマイシンはレプリコンを持つ低コピー数のプラスミドの増幅でも使用されます。スペクチノマイシンは7.5～20 mg/Lで細胞培養用途に使用することが推奨されます。

Biochem/physiol Actions

作用様式：スペクチノマイシンは、タンパク質合成およびバクテリアの30Sリボソームサブユニットへの結合による伸長を阻害し、ペプチジルtRNAの転位を妨げることによって作用します。

耐性の様式：リボソームタンパク質S5の遺伝子であるrpsEの突然変異がスペクチノマイシンの結合を妨げます。耐性はアミノグリコシド-3'-アデニルトランスフェラーゼ遺伝子（aadA）によってももたらされます。

抗菌スペクトル：スペクチノマイシンがグラム陰性およびグラム陽性菌に対して作用します。
