サイログロブリンは、ヨウ化ナトリウム共輸送体およびペンドリンを含むヨウ化物ポーターの転写を制御することが知られています。
サイログロブリンはヨウ素代謝に関与する主要なタンパク質です。サイログロブリンは、甲状腺に貯蔵されるヨード含有タンパク質で構成されており、甲状腺が脳下垂体からのTSH（甲状腺刺激ホルモン）によって刺激されると循環サイロキシンに変換されます。サイログロブリンはしばしば抗体生成のための担体タンパク質として使用されます。サイログロブリンの多数のチロシン残基をジアゾ反応を用いる接合に使用することができるため、担体タンパク質としての利点があります。
