General description

Mesitylene is a methyl-substituted benzene hydrocarbon, a specialty solvent used for research and industrial applications. Derivatives of mesitylene are used as colorant precursors to prepare organic dye intermediates such as 2,4,6-trimethylaniline.

Application

  • Mesitylene is used as a:
  • building block to manufacture antioxidants, plasticizers, rubber, adhesives, etc.
  • ligand in organometallic reactions
  • developer for photo patternable silicones
  • precursor to prepare a variety of fine chemicals
