Application
α-Galactosidase from green coffee beans has been used to assess the specificity of anti- α-Galactosidase antibodies. It has also been used in inhibition assay to assess N-guanidino derivatives of 1,5-dideoxy-1,5-imino-d-xylitol activity.
Biochem/physiol Actions
α-Galactosidase from green coffee beans cleaves the terminal α-galactose from the oligosaccharides. α-Galactosidase deficiency is associated with Fabry disease.
General description
α-Galactosidase from green coffee beans is encoded by the GLA gene.
Other Notes
One unit will hydrolyze 1.0 μmole of p-nitrophenyl α-D-galactoside to p-nitrophenol and D-galactose per min at pH 6.5 at 25 °C.
