El terc-butanol se puede utilizar como disolvente en la oxidación del 5-hidroximetilfurfural a ácido 2,5-furandicarboxílico usando Cu-MnO2 como catalizador y terc-butil hidroperóxido (TBHP) como oxidante. La mezcla de terc-butanol y sistema de disolvente metanol se utiliza en la síntesis de dioleatos de glicerol (GDO) mediante esterificación de glicerol con ácido oleico catalizada por lipasa.
