General description
Chloroform is a volatile chlorinated organic solvent whose vapors have a narcotic effect. It is a widely used industrial and laboratory solvent. It is also used in the manufacture of many pesticides, rubber, resin, and wax.

Application
Chloroform may be used as a solvent reference standard for the determination of the analyte in bulk drug and dosage forms by spectrophotometry and spectrofluorimetry techniques.
