General description
Ionomycin is a calcium ionophore commonly derived from produced by the bacterium Streptomyces conglobatus, which means that it helps to transport calcium ions across cell membranes. It is a powerful tool for studying calcium signaling and its role in various biological processes, including cell activation, secretion, proliferation, and apoptosis.
Ionomycin is commonly used in cell biology experiments to induce a rapid and controlled increase in intracellular calcium levels.
